Amanda Budde-SungAmanda Budde-Sung, WAIB President (2019-2021)
Professor of International Management, United States Air Force Academy

Dear WAIB Members and Supporters, I am honored to have been selected to serve you as WAIB President for the 2019-2021 term. One of my goals for this WAIB Board is to encourage research on gender issues in international business. I am joined by a fantastic board, which is actively supporting this goal. WAIB Research Officer Amir Shoham is developing panels and research seminars to spotlight and support gender research. Chapter Liaison Saba Colakoglu is working with AIB chapter conferences to develop mentoring sessions, paper symposiums, panels, and workshops. WAIB offers a Best Paper award, an Emerging Scholar award, and a Woman of the Year award at the annual AIB conference, and we also sponsor panel discussions and research symposia at the annual AIB conference as well as at chapter conferences. Please keep our awards in mind as you prepare papers for submission to regional and annual AIB conferences.

A second goal is to promote research and career networking opportunities among WAIB members, and to support female scholars within the IB community. WAIB Vice President Dana Minbaeva and Events Officer Yingying Zhangzhang are leading these efforts. Ana María Gómez Trujillo keeps us connected to new PhD students in her role as the Student Member-at-Large, helping us to support the research of new female scholars.

A third goal is to enhance WAIB’s visibility. WAIB Communications Officer Tanvi Kothari is working to promote greater visibility of female scholars and research on gender issues in the IB community. She maintains our WAIB presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, and makes sure WAIB members are informed of upcoming events. Please forward any news articles or research that would be of interest to WAIB members to her, so she can post them on our social media platforms.

A fourth goal is to further the WAIB Helping Hands program, created by WAIB Founder, Lorraine Eden. This program makes it possible for lower-income female scholars to attend the annual conference. For this, your financial support is needed. WAIB Secretary-Treasurer, Lyn Amine, will be reaching out to both institutions as well as WAIB members for support.

Thank you, WAIB community, for all of your support! We look forward to seeing you at the next AIB conference!
